Heavy Vehicle Lifting & Moving

Starts Sep 19
650 US dollars

Service Description

This intensive two-day Heavy Vehicle Lifting and Moving course is designed to provide rescue personnel with advanced knowledge and practical skills for managing complex heavy vehicle and machinery incidents while aligning with applicable NFPA 1006 Technical Rescue Professional Qualification Standards. Students will examine heavy vehicle anatomy, load identification, weight estimation, center of gravity, load paths, force vectors, and the effects of load shift throughout stabilization, lifting, and movement operations. Emphasis will be placed on developing and maintaining primary and secondary stabilization systems while evaluating equipment capacities, working load limits, safety factors, and system limitations. Hands-on evolutions will incorporate advanced stabilization, pneumatic and hydraulic lifting systems, mechanical lifting devices, cribbing, rigging hardware, slings, chains, wire rope, grip hoists, and mechanical advantage systems. Students will perform coordinated lifts, calculate and manage anticipated loads, capture progress, transfer loads between systems, and execute controlled horizontal and vertical movement of heavy vehicles and objects. Scenario-based training will challenge students to conduct technical size-up, identify crush and collapse zones, establish operational control areas, develop lifting and moving plans, select appropriate anchor and attachment points, and continuously evaluate system performance as forces and load conditions change. The course places a strong emphasis on understanding the science behind lifting and moving; not simply operating equipment. Students will leave with a systematic, data-driven approach to safely solving complex heavy rescue problems in real-world environments.
